The reservation process is simplified. Use our reservation form and:
1) Select one of two package options: Classic or Deluxe.
2) Choose one of five themes: Boho, Fiesta, Micnic (masculine picnic), Romance, Seashore, or Tropics.
3) Specify your preferred destination, date, and time. Submit your reservation.
We will contact you within 24 hours to finalize the details.

We will send the picnic destination prior to your reservation time. We will be set and ready to greet you.
Due to the nature of our business, no early or late arrivals, please; we have a schedule to keep and other guests to serve.
At Completion of your two-hour reservation, we will return to teardown.
Please note that you are responsible for our equipment for the duration of your reservation; please do not leave our equipment unattended. If you need something during your reservation period, please call us; we will be at your service.

A minimum of 14-day advance notice is required, and depending on the location as much as 30 days.
We may be able to accommodate reservation requests that are 13 or fewer days from the event date; this will require payment in full at the time of reservation and a $50 rush fee.

Yes, public destinations require a permit. As registered business entities picnic operators conducting commercial business at our local parks must obtain a permit and provide proof of liability insurance. You don’t need to worry, we take care of all those important details.
Permit processing times will vary by city, depending on location. Some cities process permits in as little as 2-4 days. There is an additional fee for the permit and the amount will be disclosed once the location is chosen. Additionally, the parks and recreation departments do not issue refunds for canceled events, once your permit application is processed, you will not be able to cancel and use the issued permit for a different date.
*Please note that the city of Laguna Beach prohibits commercial business anywhere, on the beach, or in public parks

Some destinations require a short hike/walk, please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Other than that, it is up to you! Your picnic package is designed to provide all the essentials for a wonderful, and memorable adventure!

Your reservation period is two hours. Need more time? We can arrange to extend your reservation with a 14-day advance notice. The additional fee will be based on your party size.

You are responsible for our equipment for the duration of your reservation; if you have an emergency, and have to depart earlier than expected, please provide us with a 30-minute lead.

We have a list of preferred, picturesque destinations for you to choose from, most of which are located along the South Orange County coastal areas; specifically, Dana Point and the surrounding areas. We will provide you with suggestions during the planning phase.
*Please note that most beach municipalities in the Orange County areas DO NOT allow commercial business ON the beach. We can get you close to the water, and set in areas with spectacular views, but the regulations in some municipalities do not allow us to set up on most beaches. If you desire a beach picnic setup, we can further discuss the regulations and details.

Yes, we can set your picnic anywhere; in your backyard or inside your home! Destinations outside a 5-mile radius from the Dana Point area will incur a $100 travel fee.

Yes, you are most welcome to bring your own food; or, for your convenience, we offer coordination and drop-off service from local vendors who supply Grazing Boxes, Sushi, Cakes or Pastries, and more.

Our packages are designed with all the essentials necessary for a magical adventure. It is customary to pay taxes on goods, and a 20% Service Fee. Additionally, the following fees may also apply and will be disclosed during the planning process:
Additional Time: You may extend your reservation with 14-day advance notice. Accommodations will be based on availability. The fee for your extended time will be based on your party size
Holiday Day or Holiday Weekend: Applies to any reservation that takes place on a holiday day or over a holiday weekend. $1000 minimum to reserve a holiday
Parking: Some state park or beach area destinations may have parking lots that impose a parking fee
Permits: Permits are required, the fee will vary by destination
Rush Fee: A $50 Rush fee will be applied to reservation requests that are 13 or fewer days from the event date
Sand Setups: inquire
Trailside: Setups on rugged terrain incur a $125
Travel Fees: For travel outside of Dana Point, 5-mile radius, a $100 travel fee will be applied

Advance notice of 14 or more days is requested. We require a 50% retainer to confirm your reservation date and time, the retainer is non-refundable, PLEASE CHECK YOUR RESERVATION DETAILS closely. The retainer will be applied to your final balance. Your full balance will be due 14 days prior to your reservation date. In addition, a $200 Damage and Loss refundable deposit will be charged at the time you place your reservation, this is to be used to cover any incidentals arising from any damage or loss of our equipment. If there is no damage or loss, your deposit will be promptly returned within 1-3 business days post-completion of your reservation.
If we have availability, we may be able to accommodate reservations placed 13 or fewer days from the event date; your full balance and a $50 rush fee will be due to confirm your event date and time.

Your reservation retainer is non-refundable. Should you need to reschedule we require 7-day advance notice. Your reservation must be rescheduled within a three-month window from your original date. We will apply your retainer to your newly chosen date and time, subject to our rescheduling policy; there are no rebooking fees for your first rescheduling occurrence but please note that we will need to apply for a permit for the newly chosen date and a new permit fee will be assessed.
Cancellations initiated:
7 or more days in advance of the original date, no refunds. 100% of the retainer will be applied to the newly chosen date. Must be rescheduled within a three-month window from original reservation date, based on availability. No rescheduling fee will apply but a new permit application and a new permit fee will be assessed.
1 - 6 days from the original reservation date, 50% of the retainer will be applied to the newly chosen date. Must be rescheduled within a three-month window from the original reservation date, based on availability. A new permit will be requested for the new date and a new permit fee will be assessed.
Same-day cancellations or no-shows forfeit full retainer and all monies paid except your Loss and Damage Deposit, which will be refunded within one business day post your cancellation or no-show date.

Thankfully, we do not frequently experience bad weather days in Southern California; in the event of inclement weather such as rain or high wind conditions, your option will be to set your picnic indoors unless you decide to reschedule to a new date; a new permit must be applied for and an additional permit fee will be assessed.

We are not licensed to and do not supply alcoholic beverages. Your picnic destination may have alcohol use restrictions. MODERNDAY EVENT DESIGN is not liable for consequences resulting from your choice to bring alcoholic beverages to your picnic location.

Most beach city municipalities do not allow commercial activity ON the sand. Lame, we know.

We provide our equipment in clean, sanitized, and, working condition; please use equipment in the manner for which it is intended. Equipment shall be returned in the same, damage-free, working, condition as you found it to avoid forfeiture of your Damage and Loss Deposit.

You understand and agree that we have no control over other users in public spaces. Our goal is to ensure that your experience is enjoyable and we will do our very best to set your picnic in an area away from crowds. Your adventure will be memorable nonetheless!
